Akarton is starting high-volume production in Germany
March 10, 2026 10:00 amNew bulk capacity in Schüttorf: what does this mean for your supply chain?
Delivery reliability is no longer a luxury. When volumes increase and delivery times need to be shorter, you want one thing: certainty.
That is precisely why Akarton is starting high-volume production in Schüttorf. Not as a replacement, but as an expansion, with one goal: to be able to run large programmes faster and more predictably.
Why this step,
and why now?
Many companies are facing the same dilemma. You want scale, but you also want quality. And you want speed, without complicating the chain.
With the new production location in Schüttorf, Akarton is increasing its capacity for large-scale production of corrugated cardboard packaging. The location is designed for fast, scalable bulk production, intended to process larger volumes reliably and predictably.
The new standard in speed
When you work in bulk, speed is not just a nice-to-have. It determines what is possible in the short term.
Schüttorf will have a production line that produces up to 800 boxes per minute. By comparison, the global benchmark is around 600 boxes per minute. The logistics are also geared to this, with a processing capacity of approximately 8 lorries per hour.
This kind of capacity is particularly relevant for fixed volume programmes, retail campaigns, fulfilment peaks or when your supply chain has little room for delays.
Shorter chain, less transport, less disruption
Speed in production is one thing. But if your supply is not right, you won’t gain anything.
That is why the chain in Schüttorf is deliberately organised to be short. The supply of corrugated cardboard is directly linked to processing at the same location. This eliminates road transport between the producer and the processor and shortens lead times.
In practical terms, this means fewer links, less waiting time and fewer variables that can disrupt your planning. Short distances speed up processes, increase flexibility in production and reduce logistics costs.
And what about Venlo?
Schüttorf is for bulk. Venlo remains Venlo.
Bulk production in Schüttorf complements the existing activities in Venlo. There, Akarton has been developing and producing niche packaging in small and medium-sized runs for decades, with precision and craftsmanship. In Venlo, the focus remains on specials and customisation for specific applications, with short lines of communication and flexibility as the starting point.
